Like the bottle, LIFESAVER jerrycan uses a highly advanced ultra filtration system, originally developed for industrial applications.
It will remove bacteria, viruses, cysts, parasites, fungi and all other microbiological waterborne pathogens. It does all this without the aid of any foul tasting chemicals like iodine which is a banned substance within the EU. The jerrycan holds 18.5 litres (approx 5 gallons) and can process up to 20,000 litres of water. There are 2 consumer versions a military and an AID version. |

LIFESAVER jerrycan is the ideal solution for the provision of water in humanitarian disasters like the Haiti Earthquake and Typhoon Ketsana that caused flooding in the Philippines. ‘LIFESAVER jerrycan AID’ will process up to 15,000 litres of clean sterile drinking water.

For a family of 4 each drinking 2 litres a day it means enough fresh clean drinking water for over 5 years! Profits from the ‘LIFESAVER jerrycan AID’ version are reinvested into providing more LIFESAVER products to those in desperate need.

Dirty water is the number one killer of children in the developing world. But it is not the lack of water that threatens lives in Haiti, it’s the lack of clean drinking water, and aid agencies and governments are in danger of looking at the issue in the wrong way.

There have been riots on the streets already with people fighting over bottles of water. The solution is not to ship millions of bottles of water; but to be able to use the water that’s already there and turn it into water people can drink.
It was precisely for situations such as this that Michael Pritchard invented LIFESAVER in 2007, and why the product is used by the British Army (among others) in situations where access to clean drinking water is a problem. It is a simple device that turns filthy water into safe, sterile water to drink – no matter how badly contaminated it was in the first place.
Children need at least 2 litres of water each day to survive. One LIFESAVER jerrycan can produce 20,000 litres of drinking water. This means that one jerrycan can provide enough safe drinking water for a family of 4 for up to 5 years.
Then there is the issue of weight. Transporting a pallet of 50 Jerrycans is the equivalent of transporting 1 million litres of bottled water. The difference is the pallet of jerrycans weighs 200 kilos and the water weighs 1 million kilos. You would need 14x Boeing C-17 Transport planes to ship that amount of water.
LIFESAVER systems has been working in Haiti with the International Aid Agency Operation Blessing. Our Haiti Project is a collaboration with Operation Blessing to distribute Lifesaver’s new, portable, family-size water filtration jerrycans to villages lacking clean water sources. These innovative jerrycans are able to provide clean drinking water from even the dirtiest of sources. Operation Blessing’s international field staff have used the LIFESAVER technology for two years with 100 percent success. Teams will be conducting an impact study over a 6-month period in the villages that receive the jerrycans, comparing the prevalence of water-borne illness in families who use the systems and those who do not. It is hopeful that this new technology will result in the ability to provide safe, clean drinking water to people all over the world at a fraction of the cost of other methods.
